       FSH is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It consists of two non-covalently linked subunits:

An α-subunit (common to other glycoprotein hormones like LH, hCG, TSH)

A unique β-subunit that confers biological specificity

 

Physiological Functions:

In Females: Primarily stimulates the growth, maturation, and recruitment of ovarian follicles, and promotes estrogen secretion.
