Description

Introduction to Sodium Lignosulfonate

1, Physical and chemical properties of the product
Appearance: Usually light yellow to dark brown powder or granules, with slight differences in color depth depending on the raw materials (such as coniferous wood, broad-leaved wood) and production process
• Solubility: Easily soluble in water, forming a clear to slightly turbid brown liquid, insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, benzene, etc; The aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, with a pH value generally between 7-9
Stability: Stable under normal temperature and dry conditions, not easily absorbing moisture and clumping; Water solutions have good stability in neutral or weakly alkaline environments, and lignin precipitates when exposed to strong acids
Surface activity: It has a certain surface activity, can reduce the surface tension of water, and has properties such as emulsification, dispersion, and wetting
• Thermal stability: When heated above 150 ℃, it gradually decomposes, and above 200 ℃, it undergoes severe decomposition, releasing gases such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide

2, Product Core Features
(1) Excellent dispersibility
The molecular structure of sodium lignosulfonate contains polar groups such as sulfonic acid groups (- SO3Na), which can effectively adsorb on the surface of solid particles. Through charge repulsion and steric hindrance, particle aggregation is prevented, and solid particles are uniformly dispersed in water or other polar media. The dispersion effect is long-lasting and stable, suitable for various scenarios that require dispersion systems.
(2) Green environmental characteristics
As a natural polymer compound extracted and purified from the waste liquid of pulp and paper industry, sodium lignosulfonate is a renewable resource utilization product. The production process does not emit additional large amounts of pollutants, and the product itself is biodegradable, which will not cause long-term pollution to the environment. It meets the demand trend of environmentally friendly chemical products in overseas markets.
(3) Good water solubility and compatibility
Not only does it have excellent water solubility, but it can also be well compatible with various inorganic salts and organic compounds (such as various fertilizers, pesticides, coating additives, etc.) in aqueous solutions, without chemical reactions causing performance failure, making it easy to mix with other products and broaden application scenarios.
(4) Significant cost advantage
Compared to synthetic polymer dispersants such as sodium polyacrylate and ammonium polycarboxylate, sodium lignosulfonate raw materials come from industrial by-products, with mature production processes and lower production costs. While ensuring product performance, it can reduce raw material costs for buyers and distributors and enhance the market competitiveness of end products.
(5) Multifunctionality
In addition to its core dispersing function, it also has certain additional properties such as bonding, complexation, and retarding, which can meet various functional requirements in different fields, reduce the use of a single product, and simplify the production process.

3, Product Usage and Application Fields
Sodium lignosulfonate is widely used in various industries overseas due to its diverse properties. It is one of the key procurement products for overseas buyers (such as enterprises in agriculture, building materials, chemical industry, environmental protection, etc.) and distributors. The specific uses and application areas are as follows:
(1) In the field of agriculture
a. Fertilizer synergists and dispersants
As a dispersant and granulation aid for compound fertilizers, water-soluble fertilizers, and slow-release fertilizers, it can evenly disperse nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace elements in fertilizers, avoid particle aggregation, and improve the uniformity and strength of fertilizer particles; Meanwhile, its molecules can complex with metal ions in fertilizers, reducing nutrient loss, prolonging fertilizer efficiency, and improving fertilizer utilization efficiency.
• Auxiliaries used for pesticide suspension agents and water emulsions can evenly disperse the effective ingredients of pesticides (such as pesticides, fungicides, herbicides) in water to form a stable suspension system, prevent pesticide stratification and precipitation, improve the spray effect and efficacy durability of pesticides, and reduce the use of agricultural drugs.
b. Plant growth regulator carrier
It can be used as a carrier and stabilizer for plant growth regulators (such as gibberellin and brassinolide), uniformly dispersing and adsorbing growth regulators in its own molecular structure, slowly releasing them, prolonging the action time of growth regulators, and avoiding their ineffectiveness during storage and use.
(2) Building materials field
a. Concrete water reducing agent and retarder
Adding it during the concrete mixing process can adsorb onto the surface of cement particles, reduce the cohesion between cement particles, decrease the amount of water used in mixing, and improve the fluidity and workability of concrete; At the same time, it can slow down the hydration reaction rate of cement, prolong the setting time of concrete, facilitate the construction of large volume concrete and long-distance transportation, reduce the occurrence of concrete cracks, and improve the strength and durability of concrete.
b. Ceramic body reinforcement and dispersant
When used in the production of ceramic bodies, it can evenly disperse ceramic raw materials (such as clay, quartz, feldspar, etc.), reduce bubbles and impurities in the body, and improve the density and uniformity of the body; At the same time, it can form a protective film during the drying process of the body, reduce the cracking of the body caused by rapid evaporation of water, enhance the strength of the body, and reduce the scrap rate during the ceramic firing process.
(3) Chemical industry field
a. Coatings and pigment dispersants
As a dispersant for pigments (such as titanium dioxide, carbon black, iron oxide pigments, etc.) in water-based coatings, latex paints, and water-based inks, it can evenly disperse pigment particles in the coating system, prevent pigment settling, floating color and flower formation, improve the color uniformity, coverage and stability of the coating, and improve the leveling of the coating, reducing brush marks during the coating process.
b. Rubber and plastic additives
In rubber production, it can be used as a reinforcing and dispersing agent to evenly disperse reinforcing agents such as carbon black and white carbon black in the rubber matrix, improving the tensile strength, wear resistance, and elasticity of the rubber; In the processing of plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene, as a dispersant for fillers such as calcium carbonate and talcum powder, it improves the compatibility between fillers and plastic matrices, and enhances the mechanical properties of plastic products.
(4) Environmental protection field
a. Water treatment agent
Used for the treatment of industrial wastewater (such as printing and dyeing wastewater, mineral processing wastewater, electroplating wastewater), it can adsorb suspended particles, heavy metal ions (such as copper ions, lead ions, chromium ions) and organic pollutants in the wastewater, remove pollutants through flocculation and sedimentation, reduce the turbidity and COD value of the wastewater, and achieve the purpose of wastewater purification; At the same time, it can also be used as a coagulant aid in drinking water treatment to improve water quality.
b. Solid waste treatment adhesive
When using industrial solid waste such as coal gangue, fly ash, and slag to prepare new building materials (such as unburned bricks and roadbed materials), it can be used as a binder to bond the solid waste particles together, improve the strength and stability of the products, and achieve the resource utilization of industrial solid waste, which meets the requirements of environmental protection policies.

(5) Other fields
a. Mineral processing field
As a mineral flotation agent and inhibitor, it can selectively adsorb on the surface of minerals during the beneficiation process of metal ores such as copper, iron, and gold, regulate the floatability of minerals, help separate target minerals from gangue, and improve beneficiation efficiency and concentrate grade.
b. Petroleum drilling field
As a diluent for drilling fluid, it can reduce the viscosity and shear force of the drilling fluid, improve the fluidity of the drilling fluid, reduce the pollution of the formation by the drilling fluid during the drilling process, stabilize the wellbore, prevent accidents such as well collapse and drilling jamming, and ensure the smooth progress of drilling operations.
