Application:

    VX-809 (Lumacaftor) is the second oral candidate compound for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF). VX-809 can restore the function of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein, which is a defect in the cell membrane protein that leads to the progression of CF. The VX-809 deficiency in CFTR protein affects the transport of chloride ions and other ions between cells, leading to the accumulation of viscous mucus in the lungs of CF patients. This mucus can promote chronic infections and inflammation, causing irreversible lung damage
